Introducing the HYFYV Book & Supper Club
Think of a book club.
Think of a supper club.
Now imagine their love child.
That’s the idea behind the HYFYV Book & Supper Club.
Every couple of months we’ll gather around shared tables for an evening of food, conversation and one brilliant book. The author joins us too, so the discussion can go beyond the page and into granular detail about the characters, the themes and the choices behind the story.
You don’t have to join anything or commit to every gathering. Just come when a book catches your interest.
Our first Book & Supper Club
I’m delighted that the first HYFYV Book & Supper Club welcomes Eva Verde to discuss her latest novel Them Girls.
Eva writes with warmth, sharpness and emotional honesty about identity, class and female rage. Her work captures the messy, complicated realities of women’s lives with wit and tenderness.
Them Girls follows Goldie and Vee, sisters in their forties whose carefully constructed lives begin to unravel. Set partly in France, the novel explores sisterhood, reinvention and the stories we tell ourselves to survive.
It’s exactly the sort of book that sparks a lively conversation around the table.
On the night Eva will join me in conversation before opening the discussion to the room.
The Menu
We’re lucky to be collaborating with Bristol chef Shona Graham, who has created a seasonal supper with a French twist inspired by the setting of the novel.
